Pune International Airport – An Overall View
Pune International Airport is located to the north-east of Pune in the state of Maharashtra, India. The airport is operated by the Airports Authority of India. This airport supports the arrival and departure of both domestic as well as international passengers.
The airport has a 2535 meter long runway and the former secondary runway which is now used as a taxiway by the IAF.
A parallel taxiway has also been constructed by AAI, measuring 2200 m x 23 m in order to facilitate civil operation on the southern side of Runway.
Currently, an often friction can be seen between the AAI and the IAF over flight schedules and night landings.
TERMINALS:
Passengers visiting Pune International Airport can get the glimpse of modern terminals. There are two terminals at the airport – one is used for the domestic flights and the other one is used for international flights.
The terminal 1 at the airport supports all the domestic flights which usually fly to 10 major cities in India. These include the flights from the major airlines like Air India, Air Asia India, JetKonnect, Indigo, Air India Express, Vistara, GoAir, Spice Jet, and Jet Airways.
Talking about the terminal 2 at the airport, it operates the functioning of international flights which run to Dubai and Frankfurt. Lufthansa airlines and Air India Express are the two major airlines which operate flights from this airport.

Initially, there was a popular fast food joint at the airport which has recently closed. Hence there is only the airport canteen for visitors waiting for arriving passengers. Inside, there are five snack bars, a fast food outlet, and a food lounge is there at the airport.

At the Pune Airport, you can pick from the few souvenir type shops. There are various other shops where you can shop for clothes, books, and newspaper etc.
Along with that, Flemingo Duty-Free is also available at the Pune Airport. It provides goods which are free of duty charges and are available at retail prices. Flemingo started this service on Pune Airport on 2009 with 40 sq meters in Arrivals, 20 sq meters in Pune airport departures.
Duty-free baggage allowance rules vary depending on the country of residence, duration of stay abroad and in India and on other factors.

If you are thinking about the car rental service counter, these are not available at Pune International Airport. But there are many local companies available in the vicinity of the airport terminal. Talking about the Pune airport parking facilities at the airport, it is quite convenient and safe. Baggage Services:
Pune Airport provides baggage services to the visitors and provides them support in luggage fetching by trolley at the entrance. The belt conveyors are also available at the departure doors. You can also avail the services of lost and found baggage counters here.

I use this airport frequently. The airport is far away from the city and is an Airforce base. It is small and the international connections are also limited to major hubs. The arrival area is also narrow and the trolleys are available there. There are 2 entry gates and you have to show e-ticket print out and passport copy there. Upon entry, luggage will be passed via a scanner and then you can proceed to the check-in counters. Upon receiving a boarding pass. Proceed to the security area. Do not forget to attach a luggage tag to hand baggage. The security check is fairly quick and max 5-10 minutes required for completing. Make sure to get a boarding pass and hand baggage tag stamped as they will be checked again by security before letting you board the plane. You only find one lounge and a few small shops. After boarding starts, you will have to walk to the plane. On arrival, I found waiting times to be minimal and by the time you arrive at the belt your luggage is waiting. Prepaid taxis are available to take you to different parts of the city. Do discuss fares in advance to avoid being ripped off. It is an okay airport where signage is adequate.

I traveled from HYD to PNQ on Jet Airways 9W 2822. The flight landed at 7 am. It was a brief walk from the plane to arrivals and by that time my baggage was waiting to be collected. Even at such early hours, there were traffic jams outside the airport. This airport is maintained by Indian Air Force and hence no photography.
Anamika Arora:
Pune International is a small airport. Everything was good except the security checking procedure. There were long queues and then when our turn came, I find that the lady checking the female passengers was very rude. She was talking to the kids like they know everything they are supposed to know. It was really disheartening to see the attitude of hers.
