Last year in 2016, Alaska Air Group acquired Virgin America at a valuation of around $4 billion including the additional expenses. In the year 2019, Alaska Air Group is set to merge Virgin America with Alaska Airlines with a single operating certificate expected.

BAGGAGE POLICY:

Rules regarding Virgin America Carry-on Limits:

Virgin America allows its passengers to take 1 carry-on bag and 1 personal item such as a purse, briefcase, laptop bag, etc. per head without any charge attached to it.

  • If you are carrying a purse or a briefcase, then the particular item should not exceed the size restrictions of 50 linear inches i.e. 24 x 16 x 10 in or 127 centimeters i.e. 61 x 41 x 25 cm including the handles and wheels of that item.
  • The carry-on required must be fit in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you.
  • If you are carrying any personal item, then it should not exceed the following size and weight restrictions of 36 linear inches i.e. 17 x 10 x 9 in or 90 centimeters i.e. 43 x 25 x 22 cm. And off-course it should fit under the seat in front of you or in the overhead bin.
  • Items like a jacket, umbrella, diaper bag, and other assistive devices such as wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, etc. are not counted in the category of carry-on and are not linked to any allowance.

Rules regarding Virgin America Check-in baggage Limits:

  • The passengers traveling on a Virgin America flight are only allowed to carry 2 standard size bags with them whose limit is up to maximum 10 bags.
  • The maximum dimensions attached to the checked-in baggage are 62 inches or 157 centimeters (length + width + height).
  • When it comes to weight restrictions, you can only carry an item whose maximum weight should be 50 pounds or 23 kilograms.

Rules regarding Virgin America carrying of Sports Equipments:

Several sports equipment like skis, golf bags, fishing equipment, hockey, etc. will be accepted any Virgin America flight but there are a certain size and weight limits attached to it and it will be counted as one checked bag of the passenger.

Rules regarding traveling with Infant on Virgin America Flight:

The children whose age is up to 2 years i.e. 24 months are eligible not to book their own seat. Along with that, the lap children can only be held by the passengers whose age is more than 15 years. Only a single child is allowed per adult. If an adult is traveling with more than one infant under 2 years of age, then he needs to book an additional seat for the extra infant traveling with him.

Rules regarding traveling with Minors on Virgin America Flight:

The children whose age lies between 5 to 14 years are concluded as unaccompanied minors. Most airlines provide a special service regarding assisting these children from the point of departure to their final destination. This facility is available to only those children who travel with an adult in the flight and who lie between 5-14 age groups. If the age of the child is less than 5, then they are not allowed to travel unless they are traveling with an adult who is at least 15 years old. And yes, there is one condition that the unaccompanied minors can only travel on non-stop flights.

Rules regarding traveling with Pets on Virgin America Flight:

In a flight of Virgin America, pets like cats and dogs are allowed to travel in the main cabin of the aircraft. But there are certain restrictions related to them like each animal should be carried in its own kennel. Virgin America allows one pet carrier for each purchased seat.

The dimensions related to the animal carriage are 18 in x 15 in x 8 in or 45 cm x 38 cm x 20 cm.

The carrier should be totally leak-proof and escape-proof.

Wheelchair Assistance:

You can enjoy the Mobility/Wheelchair assistance in a Virgin American flight at all airport locations. All you need to do is to give information regarding that while booking your flights either online or by calling. Passengers also get the option of bringing their own wheelchair. In case, it does not fit in the overhead storage bin, the airlines can easily check it in for you.

Medical Assistance:

The passengers of the Main Cabin seats are provided with seating arrangements with 32 inches or 810 mm of pitch and 7.7 inches 450 mm wide. Yes, you can avail the facility of power-ports and adjustable headrests. Here, there is the availability of free live satellite television, on-demand movies and television shows with a small selection of free games. Passengers have the facility to order snacks and other alcoholic beverages from their seats via Red and the flight attendants receive your orders via a tablet computer on the food cart.

The flight to SFO was very good and the captain was funny and made a few jokes; the flight attendants were friendly. We reached SFO in about 4 hours and 15 minutes instead of the scheduled 5 hours which save our time and energy. The flight from SFO to EWR was just as good. There was a variety of drinks and snacks as well as movies. Rather you need to pay for the movies but I didn’t mind as I had my kindle and 3DS. Cabin crew was also friendly. We touched down at 5-ish in the afternoon on January 2. Quite a pleasant and relaxing experience.

I flew in Virgin America from New York to San Francisco. From the service at the counter to the flight, in all, it was a pleasant flight along with very elegant and kind crew. I was really impressed.

On my return from a weekend in Las Vegas, I was exhausted and not that thrilled to be connecting red eye through LA to Boston. So I was very pleasantly surprised when Virgin called me up to the gate to inform me that my flight was just delayed and I would miss my connection. So they had rebooked me on a JetBlue nonstop arriving earlier than my scheduled flight! The level of foresight was excellent, I hadn’t even learned of the delay issue before they fixed it. And I got an exit row to boot. So my new favorite airline, Virgin America, is one I’ve still never flown. I’ll look to book with Virgin on my next flight, and hope to actually fly with them!
