COVID-19 Mandatory Hotel Stopover: Canadian Government Has Introduced New Measures To Stop The Spread of COVID-19
The moment you think the virus is over and we can go back to life as normal there is a new widespread second strain of COVID-19. The government is doing its best to focus on two things with top priority right now. One to bring out efficient vaccines for stronger immunity in citizens and second is to break the community herd chain.
Keeping in mind the safety of the citizens, the Canadian Government has introduced new measures to stop the spread of COVID-19 and its variants. Hence the Government of Canada has strongly advised all the people to cancel or postpone traveling that is not so essential and can be delayed. With the spread of this deadly virus we can pretty much understand that choosing to travel right now can be a risk of life or irreversible health issues.
Still, emergencies can not wait if it is urgent to travel here if you are planning to book flights from Canada to India or other destination check the list out.
Incase of traveling you need to provide a proof of a negative COVID-19 molecular test. The test needs to be 72 hours before the scheduled departure time.
As of 22nd february here is the list of things that will be required with the certificate(unless exempted):
- You need to book a Government authorized hotel and isolate yourself for 3 nights before departure to Canada. For ex. If you are flying from Canada to India direct flight you need to book an authorized hotel in India.
- Take another COVID-19 test the moment you arrive in Canada
- You need to stay in the Government-authorized hotel in Canada until results of the test arrive.
The payment of the whole trip must be completely borne by you that includes the following –
- Cost of the hotel stay
- Food
- Security
- Transportation
- Infection prevention and control measures

Once your hotel stopover gets over you are required to stay at your destined place for 14 days in isolation. The list of government-authorized hotels is now live.
Exemptions from hotel stopover
Yet there are certain norms where a person can be exempted from the hotel stopover process. You will be exempted if they are an unaccompanied minor or a dependent child.
Testing after quarantine home:
You will need to take another COVID-19 molecular test during your 10-14 home quarantine period. You will be provided with the COVID-19 test kit and list of instructions before you leave the airport.
