After launching the first direct flight from Delhi to Washington DC, now Air India is planning to expand its base in the US by adding Los Angeles and Houston to its roster.
The Chairman and MD of Air India “Ashwani Lohani” said, “We are looking at connecting two more cities – Los Angeles and either Houston or Dallas,” on occasion of the launch of non-stop flight between two countries.
He added the direct flight to Los Angeles may be starting in October. But the date for the flight to Houston or Dallas has not been fixed yet. After New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Newark, Washington DC is fifth US destination of Air India.
Ashwani Lohani said, “Last year we launched four international flights from India. This year we have seven international flights. “
He also said that the Air India is trying to expand its operations in America and a weekly schedule of three days will bring more than 30,000 visitors to the capital.
Indian ambassador to America Navtej Sarna, who was on the flight from New Delhi, said that the direct non-stop flight between the two capitals is representing the Indo-American relations.
Sarna also said, “I thank everybody for making this happen and real landmark. This all is possible, just 10 days after the Prime Minister’s very successful visit to the United States. There a lot of the things were discussed, a lot of things that were agreed upon during the discussions that increased the connectivity and investment.”
The Indian envoy said “And I think this flight is also going to have a very real impact on our bilateral relations. It’s going to make it easier for a lot of us, people for the government. It also cuts off a day and a half of the travel.”
And said, “Today we have very major economic reforms in progress; some of you may have read about the recently implemented tax reform of Goods and Services Tax which makes the entire country into a strong single market with a very simplified tax.”
He also added that the new tax system is going to promote the economy a lot.
