As per the US airline JetBlue, the boarding passes and pass checks which are used to check-in are soon be replaced by SELFIES. Yes, the airline has established a partnership with United States Customs and Border Protection i.e. CBP. This will make it easy for the passengers to pass through boarding and various airport check as now selfies will replace the boarding passes for a US airline.

THE WHOLE PROCESS: This facility will let the passengers choose their photograph and then that photograph will be matched with the one on the passport, visa or any other document by using the bio-metric data and facial recognition technology.

As per the vice-president of JetBlue,  this new facility of self-boarding with selfies will definitely reduce stress at the airport. As the boarding process with passes is very time-consuming as it is a bit manual. On the other side, this new auto-boarding process with selfies reduces the friction at the airport as it does not involve the analysis of boarding passes and manual checks of passports.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?

You just have to look at the camera and then after a click, the boarding check is done automatically. This new innovative step also let you get all the information regarding your flight and you will shortly receive a notification on your screen.

For this process, the crew members will be given the Ipad Minis through which they can interact with the passengers, according to Jet Blue.

JetBlue Airlines had also introduced the self-service kiosks last year only, which help the passengers regarding marking and dropping off luggage. This facility not only provides ease to the passengers but also improves the airport efficiency.

After this, the Delta Airlines also mentioned about starting a Bio-Metric Technology which will support the luggage handling machines. This technology also uses facial recognition to map passengers to their photographs on the passport.

This program of JetBlue will start this month only from a JetBlue flight to Queen Beatrix International Airport.

This new technology named, bio-metric selfie boarding program being introduced by JetBlue in alliance with CBP is designed in a way to promote simple to use and also offers a safe and transparent experience for passengers. The use of this modern technology come as a boon to passenger checks at airports as it will enable the passengers to easily redirect to airline systems through the biometric data and facial recognition.

This is the first integration of CBP with an airline which will be soon deployed at U.S. airports. On the other hand, JetBlue also becomes the first airline to connect to CBP with technology to undertake the process.

In a simple process, the person takes a selfie with a camera and the image is sent to CBP, where it will be matched with an ID photo like passport, visa, or immigration document.

In short, this selfie system very easily vanish the need for paper boarding passes and offcourse is very easy as compared to the process of people verifying the identity on the boarding pass and ID documents.
