DIA was the 18th busiest airport in the world in the year 2016 and support over 58 million passengers. Being the 3rd largest domestic connection network in the country, the airport supports 133 gates in total. The airport also supports the non-stop service to destinations in North America, Asia, Latin America, Europe, etc. Denver airport code is ‘DEN’.

The airport also wins the title of the “Best Airport in North America” by the readers of Business Traveler Magazine and that also 6 times in a row, from 2005 to 2010.

In the year 2017, DIA has been rated as the 28th “Best Airport in the World” by Skytrax which makes this airport to grab the second place in the United States.

Terminals:

Following are the details of Denver International Airport terminals and the concourses present over there:

Jeppesen Terminal:

The Jeppesen Terminal at the airport is named after aviation safety pioneer Elrey Jeppesen. There are two covered and uncovered parking areas which are directly connected to the terminal with three garages and an economy parking lot too.

The Jeppesen terminal is separated into two terminals i.e. the west and the east terminals to regulate the drop-off and pickup service for the passengers.

In addition to that, the north side of the Jeppesen Terminal contains a third security screening area with an immigration and customs area.

Hotel and Transit Center:

The hotels near Denver International Airport and Transit Center consist of three integrated functional areas that include the hotel, public land transportation, and public plaza.

This project involves a huge sum for its construction and was completed recently. The project includes a commuter rail train station and a 519-room hotel and conference center too. The architects for the project were Gensler and AndersonMasonDale.

Being the 82,000 square-foot public plazas, it is Denver’s newest venue for arts and entertainment. It provides an area for travelers to relax and enjoy art and views of the Rocky Mountains.

Concourses:

Denver Airport supports a total of three midfield concourses.

The Concourse A is accessible to a pedestrian bridge which is connected to the terminal building and to the underground train system (provides services to all the three concourses). To get an access to Concourses B and C, all the travelers need to use the service of the train.

The concourses and the main terminal of DIA are laid out similarly to Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The only difference between the two is that DIA has no access to the satellite unit of T gates.

In order to offset the operating costs, DIA collects landing fees, rent and other revenues from the airlines.

  • Concourse A:

The Concourse A has 38 gates in total. Out of that, 12 are equipped to handle international arrivals and four of the international arrivals gates support the services of wide-body aircraft. The Concourse A supports all the international arrivals at the airport along with the departing flights of all international carriers.

Initially, the Concourse A was formed with a view to supporting the functioning of the Continental Airlines but due to its emergence from bankruptcy, Continental dismantles its hub immediately.

At this concourse, you will find two lounges which are located on the top floor of the central section of Concourse A. It includes names like American Airlines Admirals Club, Delta Air Lines Sky Club and more.

  •   Concourse B:

There are 70 gates in the Concourse. The United Airlines is the sole occupant of Concourse B. Hence the Mainline United flights are handled from the main concourse building and the United Express operations are managed at the east end of the concourse.

You can easily find two United Clubs on the second floor of Concourse B which are situated about a few distance away from the people mover station.

  • Concourse C:

There are 27 gates in total at the Concourse C and the Southwest Airlines is the primary occupant of the concourse. There is a recent expansion seen at this concourse, after which five new gates are added to the west end of the Concourse. This expansion was completed in the year 2014 to consolidate all of its operations onto Concourse C.

  • Concourses D and E: (In Future)

Denver Airport has made all the planning for the formation of two more Concourses in future.

The Concourse D is to be built without making any change to the existing structure just the underground train system is required to be extended.

For the formation of the Concourse E, there is need to move the United Airlines hangar.

But without carrying out any type of activity on the concourse D or E, the already present concourses i.e. A, B and C will be extended in both the directions.

Denver Airport Reviews:

  • B Mallow:

I came to Denver on a visit from Philadelphia and expected the same disaster as I did getting here. I would have been dead wrong. Check-in was at about 8.30am finished getting through security at about 9.05. I was shocked. There were easily 300 people on the waiting line and we never stopped moving once. 4 machines working to process people the TSA staff seemed to enjoy their work and were very courteous to their clients. The gates seemed a bit far away but that’s to be expected with an airport this big. The restaurants and bars in the terminal were modern and looked clean and well taken care of. The bathrooms were pristine and well stocked. Overall the only thing I found bad about this airport was that one of the electrical outlets didn’t work. I’ll gladly use it again.

  • S Hogan:

I live in Denver only and have traveled a lot by connecting through the Denver Airport frequently. As of my experience, flights from DIA are always late and I don’t know why or how they can’t figure out what’s going wrong with the airport process. As I travel frequently for work and go to much larger airports and really experience no problems like these.

  • Janey Buckley:

We flew from Denver to Indianapolis then La Guardia back to Denver during our motorcycling holiday in America. We found Denver Airport very easy to find our way around spacious and sparkling clean and modern. I like the concept of catching a train to our gate rather than those walking escalators most airports seem to have. I forgot that I had two mini key-ring/penknives in my cabin bag that I had bought at Yellowstone NP which of course showed up at security but security staff were very nice about it and showed me how to post them back to Australia.
