Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport is also known as Atlanta Airport, Hartsfield, or Hartsfield–Jackson. It held its ranking as the world’s busiest airport in 2012, both in passengers and number of flights.
The airport has 207 domestic and international gates. And it ranks 6th position as an international gateway in the USA. The airport provides its international service within North America, South America, Central America, Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Airport Location
It is located 7 miles (11 km) south of Atlanta’s central business district, in the U.S. state of Georgia.
This airport is the world’s largest airport or primary hub for the Delta Air Lines. And is a focus city for low-cost carriers Frontier Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and Spirit Airlines. It is also the home of Delta’s Technical Operations Center.
ATLANTA AIRPORT TERMINALS
Hartsfield Jackson airport international terminal helps you to find the ticketing, check-in, and baggage claim area at the airport. Unique underground transit mall and subway train systems connect the passenger to these terminals.
There are 6 concourses with all the flight gates and the majority of the concessions and amenities. Atlanta International Airport has 2 terminals:

Atlanta Airport Domestic Terminal
It is on the western side of the airport. It further has 2 terminals.

The building between Terminal North and Terminal South is linked through an Atrium, which is a large and open seating area featuring with the number of facilities.
Atlanta Airport International Terminal
International flights arrive and depart from the international terminal. It is located at the opposite end of the airport.
- Concourses E & F are used for international flights and some for domestic.
- International pre-cleared flights can arrive at concourses T & A–D.
- International flights can also depart from concourses T & A–D.

ATLANTA AIRPORT TRANSPORTATION
By Bus:
Currently, MARTA bus 191 is the only local bus route serving the airport and making stops on the way to and from Clayton County Justice Center. The bus runs from 5:00 AM to 1:00 AM on weekdays and on weekends and holidays the service stops at 12:30 AM.
Greyhound Flightlink offers an easy transfer between flight and regional bus service. It is located on the lower level of the north end of the International Terminal.
By Car Rentals:
Onsite car rental pickups and returns are available at the Rental Car Center, which is a separate facility located on airport property.
- The Rental Car Center is a just few minutes far from the terminals.
- The passenger can access them via ATL SkyTrain, and also via service road for those traveling to the location by vehicle.
The following are agencies that serve the Rental Cars: Advantage, Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, E-Z, Hertz, Enterprise, National, Payless, Thrifty, and Sixt.
By Taxi:
Taxis are located in the Yellow Bus aisle. Taxis are metered but offer a special rate between the airport and the central business district.
By Hotel Shuttles:
Many hotels provide free airport shuttle service to their guests. These shuttles stop just outside the Ground Transportation area west curb that is located between the Domestic Terminal. Those passengers are coming from the International Terminal can access the Ground Transportation area free via airport shuttle bus.
By Inter-Terminal Transportation:
Atlanta airport shuttle services or the International Shuttle Connector provides direct service between the International Terminal and the Domestic Terminal’s Ground Transportation Center.
- The total trip time is of 15 minutes.
- This transportation provides its services for 24-hours a day.
- Passengers can travel between the Domestic Terminal and the Rental Car Center via ATL SkyTrain.
- It is free of cost and runs in every 3 minutes for 24 hours a day.
- The SkyTrain station is located at the south end of the Domestic Terminal that is next to MARTA Station.
By Train:
Passengers can travel between the airport and the city via MARTA transit rail system. MARTA rail is fast, easy and carries the passengers into the Domestic and International airport terminals.
- Trains run between the airport, Downtown, Midtown, and Buckhead.
- It operates from 5:00 AM to 1:00 AM.

There are a number of services present at the airport and help the passengers in case of an emergency. And they are listed below:
Airport Art Program: The airport offers exhibitions of paintings, photographs, and sculptures. Apart from this, the permanent art is also available on display. There is the number of music series, musicians perform concerts in the Atrium are also available.
ATMs / Cash Machines: There are number of ATMs and cash machines available throughout the landside and airside areas of the airport.
Baby Care: The airport has nursing rooms for mothers and babies. Private pods are also available and can be found on each concourse.
Chapel: There is an interfaith chapel located in the Atrium, 3rd Floor, E Center. It is open for 24 hours.
Currency Exchange: Travelex offers foreign currency services at Atrium E12 and E26.
Food & Drinks: There are 2 24-hour food options are available at Atlanta Airport. One is McDonald’s, located at the airside and another is IHOP, placed at landside, baggage claim in the main terminal.
Mobile Charging: There is a number of Verizon Charging Stations available. Those are located at the airside, Gates A11, A19, C10, C39, D12, D21 and E15.
Showers: Showers are available in the Club lounge at the ATL.
Atlanta airport smoking area: There are designated smoking areas available in T3, A Center (Upper Level), T12, B7, B24, C17, C28, E8, E16, E29, Heineken Bars & Grill and at Sojourner Lounge (D5).
Travelers Aid: This is an organization that assists the passengers with the number of situations like landing at the wrong airport, transportation assistance, lost or stolen money, wiring money, emergency housing. It is located in the Atrium, near the Clock Tower. It is open at 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (Mon-Sat) and on Sunday, 10:00 AM – 9:00 PM.

It is a huge airport with a nice International concourse. There is a train/tram that is easy to access along the path where you can choose to walk to your concourse. Nice selection of places to eat in the center of each concourse. There are plenty of bathrooms along the way that is kept clean. The gates have easy to find charging stations.

It is very easy to navigate within the airport, very good food options. Going through customs was very easy and I mean super quick. I took me all but 5 mins to go through the kiosk and hand them my form. I have TSA precheck and that was not an option to use as of yet. The line was long but they kept us moving and talking with us.

I travel thru Atlanta Hartsfield several times a year. It is the world’s busiest airport but it amazes me how well organized and efficient it is. I have traveled around the world and have been too many airports. Atlanta is by far the best. It may not be as glitzy as some airports in Asia or friendly as some of the airports in Midwest USA but it is very efficient and extremely functional.
